==================== MAYONNAISE TURKEY COOK TIME: 2 to 3 hours surge@doubleincision.com ==================== listen. hear me out. i know slathering a turkey in mayonnaise sounds deranged but it is THE best way to make it, i swear. the directions are extremely simple, but the bird comes out super moist and delicious. and no, it does not taste like mayonnaise when it's done! +-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+-+ { INGREDIENTS } - whole turkey, completely thawed - 1 1/2 c mayonnaise - 2 tbsp salt - 2 tbsp black pepper + cracked pepper and coarse salt are ideal for this recipe, but regular old tabletop salt and pepper will do just fine - herbs + thyme, rosemary, and oregano are my preferred combo, but you can experiment! - 1 large onion, diced - 3 celery stalks, chopped - 1/2 c salted butter { DIRECTIONS } 1. preheat oven to 450 F. 2. in a mixing bowl, combine mayo, salt, pepper, herbs, and vegetables. you want a very liberal amount of herbs-- the more the better! 3. place turkey in a roasting pan, and coat the entire bird with a thick layer of mayo mixture, including the inner cavity. place the butter in the cavity. 4. place turkey in oven and roast for about 30 minutes, then lower heat to 350 F. stick a meat thermometer into the thickest part of the thigh. continue to cook, about 2 hours or until the thermometer reads 165 F. check that the breast of the turkey has also reached 165 F. 5. remove from oven and cool for about 30 minutes before serving.
